Nine events have been confirmed for the 2022 World Rally Championship season, including the Acropolis Rally – which was drafted onto the 2021 calendar as a replacement for Rally Chile.

The Acropolis will make its WRC return after eight years away this September and will be present for at least one more year following a decision made by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris.

The Monte Carlo Rally will begin proceedings on January 23 before Rally Sweden, which runs a couple of weeks later than normal to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics on February 27 – the same weekend on which Arctic Rally Finland ran this year.

No dates have been announced for the further seven confirmed rounds, but Portugal, Italy, Kenya, Japan, Spain, Estonia and Greece will all be part of the WRC in 2022.

The other four rallies will be confirmed at a later date.

The 2022 season is an important one for the WRC, as the series adopts hybrid regulations for its top-line Rally1 cars. M-Sport Ford unveiled a prototype of its challenger at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier on Thursday.
