The 2021 edition of the Subaru Winter Experience has been canceled as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Based in Eagle River, Wisconsin, the Subaru Winter Experience driver development programs have run on Dollar Lake every winter since 2018, growing year-on-year, and is led by 2006 Junior World Rally Champion and four-time US rallycross event winner Patrik Sandell.

“Postponing the next edition of Subaru Winter Experience is of course a very hard decision to make, but we feel that we need to do our part to minimize the spread of COVID-19,” said Sandell.

“Our participants fly into Wisconsin from all parts of America, and until we have a vaccine or the spread of the virus is under control, we feel that we have to take a step back. We look forward to returning to Eagle River once again as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

The Subaru Winter Experience offers a unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of brand new Subaru WRX STIs, WRXs and BRZs on Dollar Lake.

To handle the frozen surface, each car used in the experience is fitted with studded tires, while Sandell and some of the world’s best rally driving instructors from DirtFish guide participants of all skill levels through the program.

“Subaru of America regrets that we will not be able to produce Subaru Winter Experience in 2021,” said Bill Stokes, Subaru of America motorsports manager.

“We share the disappointment with all of those who were looking forward to driving our cars on the ice this winter, but feel that the uncertainty of the situation means we must take every possible precaution for the health of participants and the local community.

“We look forward to working with FlatOut Sweden to explore our options for the event in the future.”
