Ten-time US rally champion David Higgins will return to the American Rally Association presented by DirtFish National championship at next weekend’s Olympus Rally, driving a Citroën DS3 R5 for Kyle Tilley’s Era Motorsport team.

Higgins has made just one ARA appearance since parting ways with Subaru Motorsports USA at the end of 2019 but won it with McKenna Motorsports in a Ford Fiesta.

However Olympus will be Higgins’ first rally without long-term co-driver Craig Drew since 2012, as Drew is competing with Chris Ingram on the Croatia Rally in WRC2 on the same weekend.

Higgins will therefore have James Fulton, who started last year’s Olympus Rally alongside Callum Devine, calling the notes for him.

“I can’t wait to join Era Motorsport for the Olympus Rally driving the Citroën R5 car,” Higgins said.

“It will be my first time competing in the States not in the Open class, but as R5s are the premier class in every other series, it’s great to get some event experience in one of them.

“I have made it no secret that I want to get back to a full time program, and although fairly new to rallying, Kyle and Era know how to run top class teams, and I hope I can help them further develop their rally program.”

Team owner Tilley will make his first start since the Sno*Drift Rally in mid February, missing last month’s 100 Acre Wood Rally because of a clashing endurance racing commitment.

Naturally, he’s excited to have Higgins in his team for this round.

“David is a renowned professional rally driver, especially here in America,” said Tilley.

“His experience with top level teams as well as his skill driving on the stages here in the US will help bring the whole Era team, myself included, to the next level.”
