European Rally champion Efrén Llarena has lost his lead of Rally Islas Canarias after being awarded a 10-second penalty by the event stewards.
After Friday morning’s loop Llarena had led Yoann Bonato by a mere 0.7s after losing close to 15s on the final test before service.
But things got worse for the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 driver as he has received a 10s penalty for leaving the defined route of the road book on Thursday evening’s spectator stage.
Around one of the compulsory donuts, Llarena nudged the inside barrier and moved it, and was therefore adjudged to have not completed the 360-degree spin properly.
Llarena therefore drops to fourth position, behind new leader Bonaro, Andrew Nucita and championship leader Hayden Paddon.
Joeé Antonio Suárez also clocked the same penalty for an identical offense.
