Hankook has been confirmed as the new control tire supplier for the World Rally Championship from 2025.
The new partnership was announced following the latest FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Baku on Wednesday, and sees Hankook replace Italian marque Pirelli – which has supplied all four-wheel drive cars in the WRC since 2021, but announced its departure in September.
Pirelli’s exit left Michelin, MRF and Hankook in the mix for the three-year contract starting from January 2025. The South Korean firm’s bid was accepted by the FIA, meaning it will now supply all RC1, RC2 and RC3-class cars until the end of the 2027 season.
The entrance of Hankook to the WRC marks a step up for the brand, which supplied several teams running Rally2 and Rally4 cars in the European Rally Championship this year and was the control tire supplier for Junior ERC.
Other items confirmed at WMSC were a new points structure – although the details of this have been withheld for now – and Rally2 crews will be afforded route note crews.
