Rally Adriatico, the second round of this year’s Italian Gravel championship, has been postponed due to flooding in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region.
At least eight people have died, and thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes, as floods have been recorded in 37 towns and cities.
It’s the second time this month the region has been battered by bad weather.
Formula 1 has already canceled the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend at Imola, and now Rally Adriatico – based in the city of Urbino – has been called off too as safety could not be guaranteed.
Event organizer PRS Group is already working with the Italian federation, ACI Sport Federation, to arrange a new date for the rally.
The decision to call the rally off has been welcomed by 11-time Italian, and reigning Italian Gravel, champion Paolo Andreucci.
“The Adriatico Rally was postponed, we are close to the people in our hearts,” he said.
