Eight-time World Rally champion Sébastien Ogier has talked of his admiration of Kalle Rovanperä’s decision to step back from a full program in next year’s World Rally Championship.
The Frenchman has contested his own partial campaign for the last two seasons, wanting to spend more time with his family after being full-time in the sport for 13 years.
He told DirtFish: “I think, like everybody, when I first learned about it, it was a bit of a shock. But then with some reflection, I understood and respect Kalle even more for doing what he is doing.
“To have the courage to take this decision at this moment of his life, I think it’s a big sense and a big sign of maturity.”
Rovanperä and Ogier will share a Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 in next year’s series, but the team hasn’t ruled out the potential for them to compete alongside with a four-car entry on selected events.
The Finn will return to a full-time program in 2025.
“He’s 23 years old,” added Ogier. “He definitely has the time to come back whenever he wants and reach much more success and make some records if he wants.”
