Teemu Suninen has been handed a third Rally1 chance as he will join Hyundai Motorsport drivers Thierry Neuville and Esapekka Lappi on Rally Chile.
Suninen started the season as Hyundai’s lead WRC2 driver, but following the tragic passing of Craig Breen in April, Hyundai needed a third driver to share a car with long-term driver Dani Sordo.
The Finn was chosen for the last two World Rally Championship events in Estonia and Finland where he finished fifth and fourth respectively.
At the conclusion Suninen wasn’t sure when his next event would be with Sordo returning to compete on Acropolis Rally Greece in two weeks’ time, but Hyundai has now confirmed that he and Mikko Markkula will be back in action in Chile.
The WRC has only visited Chile once but Suninen finished fifth back in 2019 when driving for M-Sport Ford.
Sordo didn’t compete, with Hyundai’s third entrant driven by nine-time World Rally champion Sébastien Loeb who finished third.
