Video: Hear the first phase of Paddon’s EV noise experiment

The sound generated plenty of discussion on last weekend's Waimate 50 Motorsport Festival

Hayden Paddon’s Kona EV project has been trailblazing ever since the outset, as the former World Rally Championship driver and his small Paddon RallySport operation prove to the world what an electric off-road vehicle can do.

On last weekend’s Waimate 50 Motorsport Festival the trend continued as Paddon won straight out of the box on the Kona’s competition debut.

But that’s not what’s got people talking. Instead, it’s the sound that’s caused a social media storm.

Electric cars are usually silent, but not Paddon’s Kona. It was running the final prototype of phase one of four that the team intends to try, but what did you make of the sound?

Does it enhance electric motorsport or spoil it? Is Paddon right to want to approximate a classic rally sound with the EV or is this an unnecessary and artificial touch?

Check out this raw footage of Paddon’s Kona in action and have your say in the comments.
