Watch Travis Pastrana’s New Year Long Beach 269-foot jump

We look back to the legend celebrating his own kind of leap year with a stunning Subaru jump across Long Beach harbor

December 31, a day where we (usually) like to party and welcome in the New Year. For rally fans it’s also the day where we remember when Travis Pastrana did Travis Pastrana things at Long Beach harbor.

Back in 2009 Pastrana set the world record for a ramp-to-ramp jump in a car at the ‘Red Bull New Year No Limits’ event, launching 269 feet (81.11 meters) over the water into a specially prepared barge.

His tool for the record attempt was a modified version of that year’s Subaru Impreza WRX STI VT9 developed by Vermont SportsCar. Prepared over two months alongside an identical spare car, the jump cars had added ballast to aid it in flight, while the 2.5-liter boxer engine was also uprated to approximately 400bhp and made more responsive for the limited run-up.

And this is all well and good – but like us, you want to watch the jump again, don’t you? Well luckily for you, you can check it out above!
