The Acropolis Rally Greece shakedown stage has been canceled on safety grounds due to severe weather conditions.

Heavy thunderstorms have battered the Lamia region where this year’s event is based throughout the week, causing complications and an adjusted recce schedule.

Earlier on Wednesday, the rally organizer had already reduced the running available with the usually mandatory three runs for P1 cars slimmed down to just one.

But in a bulletin posted at 7.15pm local time, the organizer confirmed the shakedown was canceled.

“Due to severe weather conditions and in the interest of participants, officials and marshals, shakedown scheduled for Thursday September 7 2023 is canceled,” read the document.

Recce for SS7/10 Pavliani was also interrupted earlier in the afternoon “due to the falling dark and traffic restrictions in Lamia”.

Clerk of the course Anita Passalis also issued a document reassuring all competitors that “there shall be no compromise on safety” throughout the weekend.

The rally is currently scheduled to begin with the EKO Super Special Stage on Thursday evening at 7.05pm local.
