Jon Armstrong admitted he ‘doesn’t know what to do anymore’ after crashing on the eighth stage of Rally Chile.
The M-Sport driver headed into weekend with just one goal: to get through the rally cleanly.
As a result he took two spare tires for both of Friday’s loops while all of his Rally1 rivals selected five – and he got through the leg cleanly in eighth place.
A rear-left puncture for team-mate Josh McErlean (and Thierry Neuville’s accident) promoted Armstrong to sixth, but a mistake on Saturday’s second stage dropped him seven minutes.
“The car understeered, went to the outside and hit a bank and we rolled on our side,” a dejected Armstrong described.
“I don’t know what to do anymore because I’m trying to be careful and still having problems. It’s very, very difficult at the moment. We’ll try and continue if we can.”
The front-end of Armstrong’s Puma was heavily damaged after the impact, meaning Armstrong was forced to retire after the stage.
