M-Sport World Rally Championship driver Adrien Fourmaux will take part in next month’s Rally of Nations Guanajuato, becoming the first top-line WRC driver to do so.
Fourmaux will lead the French assault on the León-based April 1-3 event, competing in a Ford Fiesta Rally2 car.
It will be Fourmaux’s first time competing in Mexico and will therefore be a vitally useful experience for him in order to get an understanding of the roads with the Mexico organizer working on a WRC return in the future.
“It will be the first time for me in Mexico. That’s why it’s really nice for me, good experience,” Fourmaux said.
“I already know the car but it will be a completely new rally for me and everybody told me that this is a really amazing rally.
“The stages are beautiful, the country is really nice, a lot of spectators. So I’m really looking forward to doing this rally.”
Mexico is famed for its ceremonial start, with parts of the opening stages meandering through the tunnels under the city of Guanajuato, and Fourmaux is keen to see what they are like to drive, having only ever watched his idols tackle the stages on television when growing up.
“I’ve been watching this stage all the time when I was watching on WRC. So yeah, I will be interested to see,” he said.
“I really want to see the atmosphere and enjoy it. I think it’s a really good opportunity for me to drive.
“I think all the driving you can get all the time is better just for experience, driving all the time so for me it’s very good.”
