As predicted by DirtFish last month, Lancia has confirmed its return to rallying.
The Stellantis-owned brand has delivered a preview of its all-new Ypsilon Rally4 HF, alongside the road car derivative.
The Ypsilon Rally4 HF will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine and, like other Rally4 machinery, use a five-speed sequential transmission. The Ypsilon will breathe life back into Lancia’s rally effort – 33 years after the factory team closed.
Talking to DirtFish about a potential rallying return last month, the Italian manufacturer said: “As we are seeing these days, there is a great love and passion surrounding motorsport, with many fans who have been following us for a long time.
“We are working on the return of Lancia to rally, knowing that it is a significant marketing lever. This means that we will return to the world of rally only if the return on investment meets our expectations.”
There remains speculation that Lancia could expand its rally offering, taking over the Rally2 program of Stellantis stablemate Citroën.
