I’m not going to lie; I was fearful how Monza Rally would look through our lenses. Comparisons to club-level British single-venue rallies sprang to mind, particularly as the traditional Monza Rally Show usually involves a course marked out by an awful lot of plastic cones, straw bales and concrete barriers. In the weeks before the rally I was thinking how to make this level of ‘pollution’, proliferating the Temple of Speed, look good. We love Monza as a venue for a Formula 1 grand prix, but for a World Rally Championship event?

We needn’t have worried. The stages within the Monza national park were cleverly mapped out using a visually attractive combination of the current circuit, the old historic banking and many asphalt and gravel link roads inbetween. Rally organizer ACI pulled out all the stops in the most demanding of circumstances to deliver a high-quality rally, worthy of a title decider, in the weirdest of all sporting years. The weather was truly awful, but as I so often say: “The worse the weather, the better the photos.”

We’ll let you be the judge of that as we present our favorite images from Monza Rally.
