Sébastien Ogier has confirmed he will start the World Rally Championship’s season-opening Monte Carlo Rally next January.

The Toyota star’s 2022 program remains undecided, but the Frenchman admitted he would be present at an event he’s been victorious on eight times since his winning 2009 debut.

Asked about his intentions of how much of the WRC season he will contest, Ogier said: “We need to wait a bit more for that.

“Definitely the team is counting on me for Monte Carlo, that’s something we can say.

“There are still some decisions to be made. The good thing is that the team is not pushing me too much.

“At the end it’s clear that I’m staying with the team and it’s clear that the team has the opportunity to have two performing drivers for the third car next year.

“The good thing is that whatever my decision is, Esapekka [Lappi] can jump in and will be ready to do a good job for the team as well. So that’s why I can be a bit more relaxed with that. I have the chance to wait a little bit more for that decision.”
