Rallying is inherently a dangerous sport. Every competitor knows the risk every single time they get into the car, but they never truly expect it to be them.
Unfortunately on this very day (June 16) 10 years ago, it was Gareth Roberts.
Competing with Craig Breen on the Targa Florio Rally, then a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the pair left the road on the first day of Saturday morning and Roberts tragically lost his life.
Despite losing not just a co-driver but a best friend, Breen bravely continued his rallying career and always has Roberts, affectionately known as Jaffa, close in his thoughts.
Today as the rallying world remembers a bubbly character and consummate professional, DirtFish is delighted to welcome Breen to SPIN, The Rally Pod.
Listen in as Breen shares his and Roberts’ story with Colin Clark, including the unexpected role Elfyn Evans had in instigating the partnership, the emotions of that epic title win in WRC Academy and how the accident has shaped the last decade of his career.
