A year since Craig Breen lit up the stages on his way to a stunning second place in Sweden, DirtFish remembers the Mayor of Brattby.
On the back of a difficult, 2022 season, Breen returned to his former team at Hyundai and arrived in Sweden for his first outing of 2023 determined to answer his critics and enjoy rallying once more.
Craig’s trademark smile was back as he spoke to DirtFish before the stages, clearly appreciating the position he was in.
His performance on Friday morning’s first stage was legendary, fastest by 3.8 seconds, and the emotion in his stage-end interview spoke 1000 words.
He then went even better in the afternoon’s second pass, fastest by 7.8s and delivering his most famous line about being “the Mayor of Brattby”.
Breen went on to finish second overall on Rally Sweden. It was to be his last WRC event.
