The end result went begging for Mārtiņš Sesks in Latvia, but it doesn’t matter – the statement he has made to the entire World Rally Championship service park is emphatic.
The question now: what happens next?
M-Sport team principal Richard Millener has already said he’d love to have Sesks back in the car, but how feasible is that? If Sesks can’t make an M-Sport reunion work, what other options does he have? Could there potentially be room at Hyundai, or does he need to wait until a new manufacturer signals interest in the WRC and needs a driver it can mould around its project?
But Sesks wasn’t the only talking point: what about Sébastien Ogier? Could we really see him commit to the thing he always said he wouldn’t ever do – doing effectively a full season again and potentially chasing that record-equaling ninth world title?
