The World Rally Championship’s official fuel supplier P1 Fuels has gone into administration, leading to FIA intervention to secure adequate fuel supply for Safari Rally Kenya in two weeks’ time.
P1 Performance Fuels GmbH, the sole supplier of fuel to the WRC via winning a sustainable fuels tender that began in 2022, was placed into provisional insolvency administration on February 10 by Charlottenburg District Court. Restructuring firm Greenberg Traurig has been appointed as its administrator.
Financial problems for P1 led to its fuel supply for the Safari being held in the Port of Mombasa due to unpaid customs fees. Subsequently, the FIA paid those outstanding fees to release the required fuel for round three of the WRC season.
An FIA spokesperson said: “The FIA is aware of the announcement regarding P1 Fuels and is working with all relevant parties to review the situation. An update will be provided in due course.”
P1 Fuels has already lost its control supply of fuel in the German DTM series and its support categories, GT Masters and GT4 Germany, where it also offered a synthetic, fossil-free fuel product. ADAC, the series organizer, has switched its supply to British company Coryton.
Aramco, the Saudi Arabian national state oil company, has been linked to potentially replacing P1 Fuels as the control supplier from Rally Islas Canarias onwards.
DirtFish has reached out to P1 Fuels for a response.
