Ken Block will compete in the inaugural Projekt E race at the World Rallycross season opener at Höljes in a Ford Fiesta ERX2.
Block, who last competed in a World RX event in 2017 and made his most recent rallycross start at last year’s Nitro World Games, is the second driver to be confirmed for the all-electric series after Natalie Barratt who is set to compete in the full season.
“I am stoked to take part in the worldwide first ever electric rallycross race in the Projekt E series in a STARD Ford Fiesta ERX,” said Block. “The car is rad and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel in Höljes.”
The car Block will drive will be adorned with the same livery as his Escort Cosworth rally car and will sport his customary number 43. What’s more, the car will also have the VIN number 043 to mark the occasion.
Block’s previous experience of electric motorsport came in an Extreme E test during this year’s Dakar rally. He also recently drove Ford’s Mach-E 1400 prototype racer after appearing in a promotional video for the concept car alongside other Ford factory drivers.
The American’s inclusion is a huge draw for the series and rallycross as a whole as it looks to showcase what the future of the discipline will look like as it migrates to electric power in the coming years.
