NASCAR champion Chase Elliott will join the Nitro Rallycross field for the season finale at The Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park on December 4-5.
The 2020 Cup and 2014 Xfinity series champion will follow in the footsteps of Kyle Busch by racing the ‘GoNitro’ entry at The FIRM, which will be his first-ever rallycross start.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in Nitro RX at the season finale in Florida,” said Elliott. “I enjoy the challenge of trying out other forms of racing and have recently taken up dirt racing, so getting in a rallycross car is really appealing.
“Nitro RX is thrilling to watch and from what Travis Pastrana and some of the other drivers have told me, it is just as thrilling to be behind the wheel. I can’t wait.”
Elliott, a three-time NASCAR Cup series most popular driver award winner, will not only bring his army of fans over to Nitro RX, but he also arrives with a wealth of racing experience despite being just 25-years-old.
As well as his aforementioned titles, Elliott has 13 Cup series wins – seven of them coming on road courses which is the third most of all time.
He also has a Daytona 24 Hours start in the DPi class on his résumé, and earlier this year he took part in the Superstar Racing Experience all-star stock car series, where he won on his sole outing.
“Chase is bar none one of the greatest driving talents in motorsport, and having an elite driver of his caliber opens Nitro RX to a new audience,” said Nitro RX creator and current championship leader Travis Pastrana. “Chase joining us for the Florida finale is a great way to close out the 2021 series.”
Elliott’s performance in Nitro RX will inevitably be compared to that of Kyle Bush, who ran at Wild Horse pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, AZ earlier this month.
The 2015 and 2019 Cup champion finished fourth on his sole outing, improving over the course of the weekend to the point where he was within a whisker of a podium finish, despite entering the event with minimal rallycross experience.
“It’s absolutely awesome for our sport to see NASCAR Cup champions like Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch compete in Nitro Rallycross,” Pastrana said. “Kyle had so much fun and a very impressive fourth place finish at Nitro Rallycross in Phoenix.”
