Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will graduate to the Nitro Rallycross Supercar class later this year, fielding two cars in partnership with leading European outfit JC EKS.
DRR has made no secret of its desire to move up to US rallycross’ top level, having competed in GRC Lites and ARX2 since 2015, and previously also being involved with the SH Rallycross team in Global Rallycross.
The transition to NRX and JC EKS’ commitment to racing Stateside presented the perfect opportunity for both sides to align.
“We are extremely excited to join efforts with the World Championship Rallycross team, EKS JC,” said Dennis Reinbold, team owner of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. “The EKS JC organization has been one of the finest rallycross efforts in the world for many years with series titles and race victories.
“Campaigning the Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro Supercars in Nitro Rallycross will be a tremendous endeavor for our DRR team. But utilizing the background and knowledge of the EKS JC operation will give us a great assistance and head start for our 2021 Nitro Rallycross Supercar team.”
The DRR collaboration is the second confirmed US program for JC EKS, with it also running the hugely popular RX Cartel effort as it switches from World Rallycross to NRX with Liam Doran and Robin Larsson.
“We have been successful in the FIA World Rallycross Championship for many years now,” said EKS founder Mattias Ekström. “And we have been seeking to expand into North America with the Audi Supercar and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing was the perfect marriage for this expansion.
“The DRR team has been winning races and series championships in the Lites division, and Dennis’ organization has the professional work ethic and passion to take the Audi to the top of the podium. We are very anxious to work with the DRR operation.”
EKS JC will also remain in World RX, where it won the teams’ championship last year, with three-time drivers’ world champion Johan Kristoffersson partnering former GT racer Enzo Ide.
