World Rally Championship regular Ole Christian Veiby will contest this weekend’s Nitro Rallycross season opener, rounding out a 10-car field for the all-electric Group E class.

Veiby will drive the fourth entry from the aligned JC Raceteknik and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing stable, alongside Monster Energy RX Cartel pairing Andreas Bakkerud and Robin Larsson, and Fraser McConnell.

“It feels really cool to be on the start line this weekend at Lydden Hill,” said Veiby. “The cars look fantastic and super, super fast, so I’m really looking forward to try it for the first time.

Veiby, while best known as a rally driver, is no stranger to rallycross, having contested four World Rallycross and six European Rallycross events across 2014-15. He won the Euro RX round at Barcelona in 2015, and is aiming for a strong result at Lydden Hill despite jumping in at the last minute.

“The expectations are always to fight for podiums and victories when I’m racing. Everything is new, but it is new for everybody, so it’s going to be interesting to see what we can do.

“I’m really looking forward to it, it’s going to be interesting to see what changes have been made to the track, and to try some jumps!”

JC Raceteknik is also running Veiby in the Nordic championship this year, where he has so far taken a best result of fourth in the season opener at Holjes, and sits fifth in the overall points.

“Ole Christian has had a good year with us so far in RallyX in his return to rallycross, and this is a good opportunity for him to understand Nitro Rallycross and electric cars,” said team boss Joel Christoffersson. “We hope he can have a nice race weekend and of course to do as well as possible.

“For sure he’s at a disadvantage compared to the other drivers in the FC1-X’s who have all done testing already, but he has a lot of mileage in rally and rallycross cars under his belt, so I’m sure he can do well.”
