The World Rally Championship’s short-term technical future was finally firmed up last week when the FIA confirmed Rally1 cars will continue at the top level until the end of 2026. But the debate is far from over.

Whether retaining Rally1 is the right call is the hot-button issue on this week’s episode of SPIN, The Rally Pod. David Evans, Alasdair Lindsay and George Donaldson are on the mic and have conflicting opinions – with ERC’s Royal Rally of Scandinavia held up as an example of why a Rally2-based formula deserved a proper look.

With Donegal approaching this weekend there’s also plenty of talk about Irish rallying, plus the upcoming trio of fast gravel events in the WRC – Donaldson has plenty of insight on how the teams will have dealt with the first six rounds and how they’ll approach preparation for the next phase of the season.

What’s your view on Rally1 versus Rally2? Or asphalt versus gravel? Listen to SPIN, The Rally Pod below or via your podcast provider of choice, and share your view in the comments.
