The Extreme E calendar for 2022 has been unveiled, with two rounds in South America set to feature for the first time.

Less than a week after concluding its inaugural season in Dorset, with the UK round installed as the championship finale late on as an unfavorable coronavirus situation made it impossible to visit Argentina or Brazil , Extreme E has now revealed the location of its five 2022 rounds.

The series had previously confirmed that Saudi Arabia would once again kick the season off , albeit in Neom rather than AlUla, with the equipment needing to be shipped immediately after the season-ending round.

While Sardinia also retains its spot on the calendar for 2022 as the second round of the season, the championship will not be returning to Greenland.

At this stage, Extreme E is unable to confirm the location of the third round of the 2022 championship, but there is a chance it could return to the UK.

The series is still finalizing its race agreements for the third location but it has revealed that it will either take place in Scotland or in Senegal. DirtFish understands any round in Scotland is more likely to make the calendar in 2023.

Chile was penciled in as host nation of the season finale on the provisional calendar Extreme E released in September, but its round in Antofagasta will now take place in September.

The final round will instead take place in the Uruguayan coastal resort of Punta del Este, in which the Formula E single-seater series raced three times, in late November.

“After a spectacular opening season we are thrilled to be in a place where we can announce our Season 2 calendar,” said Extreme E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag.

“All of us here at Extreme E are looking forward to revisiting some of the amazing race locations from the 2021 season to see for ourselves the positive impact our electric series has had and to see what more we can bring to the communities there.

“We also very much hope to add South America to our list of continents, and with visits to both Chile and Uruguay planned, it is shaping up to be another exciting season.”
