DirtFish understands hybrid testing for all three manufacturer teams in the World Rally Championship has stopped after the parts supplier requested the return of its kits.

DirtFish has contacted Compact Dynamics CEO Oliver Blamberger to ask why Hyundai Motorsport, Toyota Gazoo Racing and M-Sport were instructed to send parts back to its factory just south of Munich.

None of the teams were willing to discuss the situation, but a senior source told DirtFish: “From what we can understand there was a significant issue in one of the batteries and the teams were emailed this afternoon [Friday] with a request to stop running the parts and to send motors and batteries back to Compact Dynamics as soon as possible.”

This comes soon after M-Sport and Toyota began running their 2022-specification Rally1 cars.

Again, none of the teams were willing to discuss the number of meaningful miles completed either on a stage or on a test bench with the hybrid units fitted and functioning.
