From winning on just his fourth WRC start, to abandoning his burning Fiesta WRC in Mexico earlier this year, Esapekka Lappi’s time in the World Rally Championship’s top tier has certainly been dramatic so far.
In this video interview with DirtFish, the Finn discusses his arrival on the WRC scene with Toyota in 2017, the expectations his Rally Finland victory that year created, plus the manner in which he has coped with them.
Lappi has experience of three different current-generation World Rally Cars, and also compares the behavior of those machines – including the Citroen C3 WRC of 2019 – and explains the difficulties of starting his past two campaigns with limited experience of the car underneath him.
