Do you have a wall? If you don’t have a wall, build one. And do it now. And when you’ve built it, put a nail in it. That’s all. Now you’re ready. Ready for what?
For what?
The Wider View.
Do you really need to ask?
Now in its 20th year, McKlein’s calendar is as gorgeous and absolutely necessary as it’s ever been. And, as usual, it’s close to a meter wide. That wall better be well made.
Having McKlein as a photographic partner at DirtFish, we might be biased, but limiting the 25 shots on this year’s calendar (each month gets two picture options) to a fortnight or a month at best is an absolute travesty.
You’ll have to wait until this time next year to get to my personal favorite: Kalle Rovanperä topping the hairpins on the Col de Braus stage of the Monte Carlo Rally.
That shot from January this year is classic McKlein, an achingly beautiful backdrop comes complete with a winter sun peeking through the mountains and the Toyota Yaris WRC in foreground.
It’s a similar story in September as Sébastien Ogier looks to dive out of the bottom-left corner of the page, leaving a trail of dust to strobe through the trees – all being captured by the telly heli.
Fancying something a bit more in the face, have a look at Sébastien Loeb tipping his Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC into at Rally Turkey right-hander.
If it’s speed you need, same rally but a very different place. Elfyn Evans takes flight in a pin-sharp, stunner of a shot.
The cover? You’ll be tempted to leave this one up all year – it’s Teemu Suninen’s M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC being chased hard through Mexico by a helicopter. In meter-wide (95cm x 48cm to be precise) this picture will stop you in your tracks on a daily basis.
As will the other 24.
