World Rally Championship teams have called on the FIA and WRC Promoter to clarify their position on the Monza Rally Show – and whether or not it will become a deciding eighth round of this year’s championship – before the start of next week’s Rally Italy.

Speculation remains that the Italian circuit could feature with an event which also includes action on northern Italian stages outside of Monza.

The teams have sought clarity from the governing body and promoter ahead of what could be the first of two Italian WRC rounds in Sardinia next week.

One source said: “We need to know what’s going on. Are we going to run this event in Monza? We need to know before we start the penultimate round because the addition of another rally could have implications for strategies the teams are running.

“And, as well as that, it would be nice to know one way or the other what was going to happen.”

There are reports in Italy that a deal has been done for some time to run the WRC at Monza – partly out of fears that Sardinia could be lost to coronavirus.

DirtFish understands a decision is imminent on Monza.
