Last week, we asked you to vote for your favorite World Rally Car. Well now the results are in, and if our exercise has proved anything, it’s that the World Rally Car really was as popular as we thought.
An incredible 5827 votes were placed in DirtFish’s poll which was live for a week, and rather nicely every single one of the 31 World Rally Cars got at least one vote.
The burning question is, which car came out on top?
Sorry to keep you in suspense, but we’re going to keep that under our hat for a little while longer. Look out for some exclusive content over the next few weeks as we gradually reveal the fans’ top five favorite World Rally Cars – as voted by you.
But what we can do here is firstly thank you for your incredible response, and also reveal some of the cars that didn’t find a way into your hearts – and there were arguably some surprises.
The Subaru Impreza S7-S8 WRC – nicknamed the ‘bug eye’ – received more votes than its successor, the S9-S11. The Peugeot 307 WRC was as high as 12th, and the Ford Fiesta RS WRC was all the way down in 25th as the least favored Ford.
But elsewhere, some of the results were more predictable. Citroën’s C3 WRC – a car that never really worked – and the Subaru Impreza S14 WRC, a rather bulbous Impreza compared with its predecessors, were right at the bottom of the table ahead of Hyundai’s first two i20s; the i20 WRC and NG i20 WRC.
Perhaps the i20 Coupe WRC scored lower than expected with just 2% of the vote, but cars like both the ’99-’02 and ’03-’05 Focus RS WRCs loitered around the top 10 with the Escort WRC and Toyota Corolla WRC up there too.
If you like your statistical symmetry, it’s somewhat upsetting that the Peugeot 206 WRC attracted 209 votes, while the Subaru Impreza S12 missed out on a spot in the top five by just one single vote.
