Video: Colin McRae’s career with M-Sport

Malcolm Wilson talks about stealing McRae away from Subaru, and the success they then had

Today, July 14, marks 19 years since Colin McRae’s final World Rally Championship victory for Ford and M-Sport.

McRae was enticed away from Subaru for the first year of the Focus WRC project three years earlier in 1999, which was one of the biggest driver deals in World Rally Championship history.

Malcolm Wilson, whose M-Sport team ran the factory Ford program, sat down with DirtFish last year to offer incredible insight and memories on his years as McRae’s boss.

From shocking rivals by taking the Focus’s first WRC win on the punishing Safari Rally in only its third start, to the agony of losing the 2001 title via a massive Rally GB crash, McRae’s Ford years were every bit as dramatic and spectacular as the rest of his legendary career.
